Dear BVBC Friend,

Ballard vs. The Big “C” Striking Back to Spare More Lives is a fun bowling event that was developed during Del Ballard’s journey with tonsil cancer and we are proud to have partnered with Cancer Care Services, Baylor Health Care and the North Texas Laryngectomy Society.

Over the past 5 years we have raised over $280,000 that helps to support these fine organizations as well as Cancer Research. Please help us continue to improve someone’s quality of life by supporting BVBC which is a 501C3, so all donations are tax deductible.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Bowlero Euless in Euless, Texas. Through your participation or donation, you will help the lives of many and help in the fight against all cancer.

Please visit our website: www.BallardvstheBigC.org for more details as well as our sponsorship and entry form for this fun Bowling Event. Thank you for helping to make a difference.

BVBC: Who we are

Our history is simple: Ballard vs. The Big “C” is a bowling charity event that was created out of love and friendship for a Husband, Dad, Brother, Uncle and Friend. Team BVBC knew that through Bowling we could raise money to help other patients going through the cancer journey. Del Ballard, Jr. was diagnosed in May of 2010 with tonsil cancer and from that day forward, life has never been the same.

Sitting in the living room of the Ballard home one night while Del rested after treatment, a group of friends decided that We Could and Would create a fun event to help others. As the drinks flowed and the chatter went on, the event became a reality. “I remember saying to Terry Taylor the next day, I think if we get about 15 teams and raise about $10,000 we will be going in the right direction”. His response to me was the following: “CDB, you are way too low and it’s going to be bigger than that”. Terry was right and with the help of many, we have raised over $145,000 in three years for our community.

Our business plan was written, put into motion and everyone we contacted helped in one way or another. Our Team is strong and has grown over the last four years. It’s amazing what the love for one person can do and how it can change the lives of others.

We continue to grow and became an official 501C3. Our supporters which include: 28 sponsors, 52 teams, and over 600 people fill a bowling center over a weekend to give back to their community. Anyone that tells me things are not possible does not know the power of friendship or the power of the bowling community.

Del has helped many people over the years on and off the lanes, he was a true champion and one of the best the sport has seen, but it’s his strength in the midst of adversity that is amazing. BVBC is a true testament to how much he is loved.

Del Ballard

Del Ballard

In 2010 I was diagnosed with tonsil cancer and from that day on my life has been forever changed.  Being a Professional Bowler for over 30 years, you meet a lot of people and become a part of a fantastic bowling community. It was only a natural fit that I bring the sport I love, bowling, into the world of trying to Fight The Big “C”. Helping our community and others while going through the cancer journey is now a passion for me and my family. I continue to travel as a PBA Tour Representative ad coach both domestically and internationally and own and operate four pro-shops: Ballard’ Bowling Solutions in the Ft. Worth area. Bowling in our community working together to lick The Big “C”, that’s the game plan.

Carolyn Dorin-Ballard

I still remember that day in May 2010, when I heard the doctor say to Del, “You have tonsil cancer.” For the next year and a half to two years, my life was a complete blur. Our lives were forever hanged by the Big “C”. Ballard vs. The Big “C” was brought to life two years after Del’s diagnosis in 2012. Being involved in the bowling industry for over 30 years, it’s the fantastic bowling community that become your extended family. It was only fitting that we use the vehicle we know to help others in their fight with the Big “C”. Every day we are thankful for our family and friends that have omitted to help us in the Fight.

Who We Help

With generous donations from our sponsors and supporters like you, we provide support to Baylor, Cancer Care Services of Fort Worth, and The North Texas Laryngectomy Society.

As we enter our 4th year, we are pleased to tell you that we have helped raise over $145,000 for two great organizations right here in our community; Baylor and Cancer Care Services. Helping patients through the cancer journey in many facets has become our goal, and with your support we can continue the Fight.

Cancer Care helps provide the nutritional supplements during and after treatment to patients who can’t afford them and provides emotional support as well as financial help. People who Care for others is the best description of Cancer Care Services.

Baylor is a leader not only in exceptional health care, but in cancer research. Cutting edge clinical trials and cancer research continues to expand at Baylor as well as providing the emotional support to patients and family members as they go through their Navigation program.
